Part of me still can’t believe how much progress we made on the nursery in just one weekend. Granted, everything was kind of just sitting in the room ready to go — but it was really fun to watch something come together so quickly after months and months of scheming, designing and planning. It’s a good thing we decided to get our act together too, because I’m due on Saturday!
When I designed Wyatt’s nursery, I had a very specific theme in mind: woodland whimsy. Um, yeah. Haha.
And it’s not that I didn’t like it or even continue liking that idea — but I guess I learned that I don’t really do well with overt themes like that. You know, like: nautical, woodland, giraffes, bicycles, circus animals, frogs, etc. Even if I add a unique adjective to the end of said theme, like whimsy. In doing so, I find myself denying my eclectic nature and pursuing a more cutesy + coordinated version of what I actually like…
Does that make any sense at all?
I eventually strayed from my deliberately devised theme and created a space that was much more modern + bohemian in nature — and loved it. This time around I decided to do all that from the get-go. Having moved into a new house since creating Wyatt’s nursery, I had the opportunity to start from scratch. My theme this time around was simply: designing a minimal nursery with a neutral color palette. One that I thought would see me through any number of babies we decided to have after this one ;) And if I wanted to personalize it each time? The ultra neutral room would allow for it easily: done and done.
So there you have it. I wouldn’t say the nursery is completely finished: I typically give my babies crib sheets to sleep on, lamps often function better with shades and I don’t like creepy strangers to stay in the frames on my walls forever… ;) BUT I absolutely love how everything fleshed out. Having a vision and watching it come to life in a physical space is endlessly fun. Go on and see for yourself :)
Note: I’ve included a few links at the end in case you’re wondering where any of the items came from. If you have questions about anything I left out, just leave’em in the comments section — I promise I’ll answer!
