Several months ago, back when I began scheming for Wyatt’s first birthday party, I approached Nick about what kind of theme we should go with. I’d seen so many cute ideas I was having a hard time choosing. I was shocked to hear him balk about a theme. A theme… really? (Insert exasperated stare here).
I was baffled. Any kid’s birthday party is themed, right? How would you decorate without a theme for goodness sake?!
He responded, “with normal birthday party decorations… duh?” I just didn’t get it. Maybe I still don’t, but after that conversation, my mind ran wild with ideas. Yes. Yeeeeessss! No vintage foxes or adorable owls for this boy. Woo! This would be brilliant! A “birthday” themed birthday. (Cue eye roll)
I may not have pulled off a theme-less birthday party (according to Nick I totally missed his point), BUT I always have the utmost satisfaction when I can pull of a grand vision of mine. I’m not sure what you see when you think of a “birthday” themed birthday party — but these are exactly the images I had whirling in my crazy mind as attempted to piece together this small, intimate first birthday party for my little angel.
Hope you enjoy taking a gander and are somehow inspired! (All links for materials, recipes, DIYs and tutorials are listed at the end!)
