Waaay back in April one of my blogging pals, Andrea from Seasons and Salt, started an awesome series featuring outfits she really wears everyday — as opposed to carefully curated blog looks that we see so much of the time. So simple, but so powerful. I instantly fell in love with the idea and (if I’m being perfectly honest) thought: well crap, how come I didn’t think of that?
I’ve been wanting to do something similar for awhile — I’ve continued to get more outfit post requests all along — but I just never knew how to pull off consistent outfit posts (or any really) in a way that felt authentic to me. Something that feels lighthearted and inspiring, yet also honors and resonates with real (mom) life. Ya know?
Andrea has executed this series so perfectly that I was just like YES! Haha! I asked her if I could join in and well, here we are: a few short months later with my first ever ‘What I [Really] Wore’ blog post.
I hope to share this series in a weekly format as well, so we will see how that changes over time. I started documenting daily outfits last Tuesday, so this week’s post includes outfits worn (last) Tuesday through Monday (yesterday). I’ve decided to say “meh” to the arbitrary nature of this sharing format (something I would typically scrutinize and attempt to perfect) and embrace the heart of it instead. Here’s to starting where you are. ;)

TUESDAY
Tuesday was a day at home and of running errands with the boys. I rotated back and forth between throwing my hair up in a ponytail and wearing a hat and sunglasses. I’ve had this shirt on my wishlist for over a year, it went completely out of stock and then, miraculously was restocked! I finally pulled the trigger on it this spring. I’d been looking for a white button down for about two years, but one that wouldn’t feel starchy or too dressy. When I saw Andrea wearing this white linen one over a year ago (I told you, she’s awesome) I was sold. It’s silhouette, and the fact that it’s a button down, means I can wear it to the office with a pencil skirt. But it’s wrinkly and relaxed nature make it a perfect fit for mom life too.

WEDNESDAY
Oops! I missed my photo for Wednesday. Days I’m at the office just don’t really allow for anytime for well, anything really. Haha! BUT I figured out a work around for this come Monday (yesterday), and I pretty much wore the exact same thing as I did on Wednesday — no shame — so if you want you can scroll down to take a peek.

THURSDAY
Thursday brought with it a continuous threat of rain, in fact it even started drizzling when we set out to take this photo. The boys are awesome and are still willing to join in, so we just made a thing of it. After this we packed up a lunch and dared to head to the playground. It ended up raining for a bit, just enough to clear out the playground so we had it all to ourselves. ;) Still a huge fan of these overalls! Although I don’t get much wear out of them in the summer months (it’s just too dang hot) on Thursday I reached for them right away because the temps decided to dip just enough. Also, it’s worth noting that I absolutely love this striped tee. I came across Amour Vert via catalog mail (can you believe it?!) and after checking them out decided to take a chance on purchasing two of their tees. I hope to do a review of sorts at a later date, so I’ll leave it at that for now.

FRIDAY
Friday was a total top knot kind of day, if you know what I mean. I wore this top un-knotted and untucked most of the day with these shorts, but at dinner time I spilled taco sauce all over the bottom of it. I spot treated it as much as I could, but when we decided to suddenly head out of the house I just knotted it and successfully covered up (most of) the stain. I know, I’ve got some tricks.

SATURDAY
Whoops! Another day, another miss on an outfit photo. In all fairness I spent most of the day in a paint covered tee and pants and old hiking shoes as we quickly refreshed a rental property of ours for a family to move in on Sunday. It was such a busy, full day that I even went out like this to grab dinner! I’m choosing to say “meh” about that one too. In the future though, would it be kind of cool/unexpected/fitting to see those outfits too?

SUNDAY
This look was actually the second outfit of the day for me. Earlier in the day we had gone to a family reunion so I wore a sleeveless denim shirt dress I recently picked up at local secondhand store of mine (don’t worry, it gets tons of wear so you’ll likely see it soon) so I felt a little more pulled together. The evening called for more sturdy wear as we helped my brother move his stuff into a storage unit, I put on a tee and shorts to be a little more comfortable while hauling boxes. I always feel a little European when I wear this top, and I love it. I think its the cut of the sleeves and the neckline that does it. Its cropped nature threw me for a loop at first, but since I’m akin to high waisted everything these days it didn’t take me long to figure out exactly how I love to wear it.

MONDAY
End this week with a work look! As mentioned earlier, come Monday I was struggling to figure out how I was going to fit in an outfit photo on my (currently) 12 hour office days. And then I saw this tile and was like, duh! So work looks will likely be coming to you in this format, but you know it works. ;) (You guys, I seriously can’t help the puns. They just happen.) Anywho, my favorite hack for combining mom-wear with work-wear is the good ‘ol elevated tee paired with a pencil skirt. I work in a relatively casual office when it comes to attire (not a pantsuit to be found) but alas there is no dressing up your jeans to be found either. I bought this pencil skirt secondhand shortly after Thurser was born. After awhile it became too big and I stopped wearing it all together. I still really loved the color and the cut so I finally brought it to tailor and holy crap am I ever glad I did. It fits better than ever and I was thrilled that I was able to give it yet another life.

That’s it for this week! Like I said, I hope to be back every week with this series and mixing it up with all my other usual lifestyle posts. I really appreciate you guys, so thanks for always reading along! :)
