Awhile ago I shared with you a “before” farmhouse home tour, including a series of photos of our house from the listing when we bought it. For the most part it was a pretty good overview, missing a few rooms here and there. My goal was, and continues to be, to share in our farmhouse renovations, upgrades and repairs.
Most days it doesn’t feel like we’ve done a whole lot in the reno department on our home, mainly because I’m always getting ahead of myself and not pausing to appreciate what we actually have accomplished in the short amount of time we’ve been here. And then I start to look back at photos and realize, wow. I can’t believe “x” room looked like that! I’ve already forgotten!
Any who, today I’m sharing with you some progress we’ve made in our kitchen within the last few months. If I’m being honest it’s still far from the masterpiece I have pictured in my brain, but I’m still loving it. :)
This is the “breakfast room” as they call it. Eventually the tile in this room will be replaced with the laminate flooring we bought four our entire house. (I’d explain all about why we ultimately chose this type of flooring now, but that’s another blog post for another day.) I’d like to repaint as well. I’m thinking, you guessed it, white.
In addition we’ll most definitely be upgrading the lighting. The current light fixtures do nothing to accentuate the house’s age and character.
If we hang a louie, we arrive at the main galley style kitchen. It’s pretty expansive. We just recently put down a vinyl flooring that was sorta kinda a hand me down? As in we knew someone who bought the wrong kind and was going to pay a fortune in restocking fees so we “took it off of their hands”, so to speak ;)
It’s a nice durable surface, and is a huge improvement from where we were with the old linoleum that was cracking and literally peeling up (daily I would have to tell Wyatt to put floor tiles back…) BUT it too will eventually be replaced when we go to truly overhaul our kitchen.
Like I said, expansive. But also pretty dang dark. I generally overexpose my photos so as to create the illusion that the room is flooded with more light, because I like the bright and airy, but in this case I took an even exposure so you could get the real affect.
We’re still finishing up some of the details. You may notice that the kick plate is missing, and that the top section of cabinets has different hardware than the bottom… but you know, all in good time ;) I’m sure it would cost a small fortune, but I’d love to make this a wall of windows to let the light shine in. Let there be light!
How’s that for a mini update? I have so many ideas when it comes to this kitchen. I’m currently trying to narrow the realm of possibilities — all pinned accordingly on my Pinterest boards here and here, of course.
