10 x 10 Spring Challenge: Looks

April 30, 2016

Last week I dove, head first, into a mini capsule challenge of sorts — Lee’s 10 x 10 Spring Challenge.  The goal being simply to choose 10 pieces and then create 10 great + unique looks with only those 10 pieces, layering in accessories to really spice things up.

I don’t often post on Saturdays (because it’s Saturday…) but yesterday wrapped up my first five days — and thus first five looks — so I really didn’t want to delay in sharing!

You can get caught up on the pieces I chose, my goals for this challenge and why I decided to structure this challenge the way I did in this post. :)

So without further ado: the outfits!

Note* The photos in this post are grainier than the usual quality of my blog photos due to the fact that they were all taken on my iPhone in mediocre light. My DSLR 15-55mm lens has been freezing on me for months and finally decided to crap out on me the moment I began this challenge… Yay.

WEEK 1 | LOOKS 1-5Use 10 pieces to create 10 unique everyday looks via thelovelylauralife.com | cream blouse, pencil skirt + peep toe bootie

It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of neutrals. One of my favorite ways to not make a neutral outfit feel lack luster is to layer neighboring shades. Cream, light grey, tan and cognac. Doing this adds so much dimension to a look even though it still reads completely neutral.Use 10 pieces to create 10 unique everyday looks via thelovelylauralife.com | striped tee, ripped denim + converse Use 10 pieces to create 10 unique everyday looks via thelovelylauralife.com | chambray, pencil skirt + peep toe bootieTruth be told, I very rarely do anything with my hair. Which is why I wear so many hats! Seriously. Does it get any better? Hide dirty messy hair and some how look more pulled together despite that dirty messy hair? Magic.

Just don’t take it off! Haha!

WEEK 2 | LOOKS 6-10

I once read somewhere that girls with curves should never wear pointed toed shoes…

What in the…?

This is why I say “pffffffffft” to “fashion rules”.   Good design is good design.  Whether it’s a piece of furniture, an entire kitchen or a pencil skirt and pointed toed flats. :)Use 10 pieces to create 10 unique everyday looks via thelovelylauralife.com | striped tee, light wash denim + converse Use 10 pieces to create 10 unique everyday looks via thelovelylauralife.com | striped tee, pencil skirt and peep toe booties Use 10 pieces to create 10 unique everyday looks via thelovelylauralife.com | chambray, dark denim + patterned flat I wear this combination — chambray + dark skinnies — every single week. Sometimes more than once.  BUT I normally wear it with some sort of sneaker.  A simple switch of the shoe and larger cuff on the pant leg and voila, more capsule wardrobe magic.

There is seriously something to be said about having a dynamic selection when it comes to shoes.  I personally feel that they set the tone of an entire ensemble.Use 10 pieces to create 10 unique everyday looks via thelovelylauralife.com | striped tee, dark denim, flowy trench + peep toe booties

This upcoming week I will be completing this challenge and wearing looks 6 – 10. The following week I will then share a challenge recap, detailing:  why I chose the pieces and/or combination of pieces I did, what worked for me with this mini capsule and, of course, what didn’t.

THE PIECES

1 | Striped short sleeve tee | H&M

2 | Chambray (old + thrifted) | J Crew, similar

3 | Cream blouse (old + thrifted) | AB Studio, similar

4 | Light grey pencil skirt (old + thrifted) | Banana Republic, similar

5 | Light wash denim | American Eagle (distressed by me)

6 | Dark wash denim | American Eagle

7 | Wrap trench coat (old) | Mango, similar

8 | Patterned flat ( fabric painting diy), similar

9 | Peep toe bootie | Steve Madden

10 | White sneaker | Converse

Use just 10 pieces to create 10 killer everyday looks -- or try your hand at a mini capsule challenge

If you want to check out more 10 x 10 challenge inspiration hop on over to Andrea’s blog or visit Paige.  These two wonderful women joined in on the mini capsule action as well :)

What do you think? Does 10 pieces sound like a little or a lot for a challenge? What do you think about “fashion rules”? What other ways do you add variety to your wardrobe?
