I know, I know. It’s the day before Thanksgiving and I’m sharing outfit ideas? But in case you too are feeling the urge to go out and get an entirely new outfit on a whim for tomorrow’s celebrations, here are three looks that I can almost guarantee you will be able to recreate with pieces you already have in your closet. :)
Also, be sure to scroll all the way down to read a few more details about my shopping break I’m coining as a #retailrecess.
LOOK NO. 1 / THE CASUAL LUNCH
1 | Cable knit sweater by H&M (old), similar and similar made responsibly
2 | Overalls by Madewell (secondhand), almost exact same or try this Ebay alert
3 | Ankle boots by Madewell (secondhand), almost exact same or similar made responsibly
4 | Camp socks by Madewell (old), love pretty much all of these options
LOOK NO. 2 / THE SEMI-DRESSY DINNER
1 | Cable knit sweater cardigan by Anthropologie (old), similar and similar (lighter weight option) made in USA
2 | Lace tee by Madewell (old), similar (almost sold out!)
3 | Jeans by Madewell (secondhand), almost exact same (Fits notes: since I’d never bought Madewell jeans before, much less secondhand, so I was extremely worried about sizing! I took my measurements (and now keep them on hand) and called up my local Madewell to compare notes. The woman i spoke with was extremely helpful and spent a great deal of time answering all my questions to determine fit and sizing, so if you’re in the same boat I would highly recommend taking this route.)
4 | Ankle boots by Madewell (secondhand), almost exact same or similar made responsibly
5 | Camp socks by Madewell (old), love pretty much all of these options
LOOK NO. 3 / THE IN-BETWEEN
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT MY RETAIL RECESS
Last week I shared with you some of my favorite looks for this fall as well as my plan to partake in a “retail recess” over the next six months.
I began this recess almost immediately after I made a few late fall additions (on October 28 to be exact) and l just knew the urge to acquire — no matter how many well thought out purchases I made — just wasn’t going to subside. Honestly? I don’t believe I will ever reach that point of “arrival”. You know the one where I won’t continuously feel the need of wanting more? I believe that I will always “battle” with that — that most of us will. But I definitely have felt an attitude shift in myself since I have started down this path of a “less is more” wardrobe. And I believe wholeheartedly that the habits we foster will ultimately shape the attitude of our day-to-day. I’m using my constant desire to acquire pieces for my wardrobe — whether backed with a valid need or not — as feedback from which I can gather that I’ve allowed some unhealthy habits to creep back into my life. So I’d like to think that simply taking a break from constantly perusing clothing sites and shopping for clothing all together for a significant period of time will allow me to press a figurative reset button — and will help me re-establish some of my day-to-day habits.
I’m very excited that several of you have voiced that you will be joining in on the #retailrecess: for 6 months, 1 month or even just a week! Woohoo! You guys rock! I plan to share in my experience here on the blog as well as on Instagram with the hashtag #retailrecess — I hope you’ll do the same because I think we’ll all need a little rooting for along the way. :)
Also, please know that I’m not foolish enough to believe that everyone who seeks out or happens upon my blog will be in this same place — so posts, links, etc. will continue as usual. My greater hope is to provide value to you or to someone who is looking to start down a similar path and I would be ecstatic if that means I could introduce brands and/or wardrobe pieces and outfit ideas that would help achieve those longer term goals. So please don’t feel guilty or like you need to avoid this space if you are currently in an acquiring phase simply because I’m talking about taking a break from it. :)
So tell me, which look is your favorite? :) And … if I do more outfit posts in the future, what sort of things would you like to see featured?
P.S. In case you think I’m all business during a photoshoot, here’s a photo that proves otherwise… Haha!
