One toddler, one infant, two dogs, a home, a farm, one full time job, one part time job, and well — life –means this mama and her man are instituting date night.
On one hand I can’t believe it’s taken us (ahem, me…) this long to realize this necessity in order to be able to have quality alone time and on the other hand, I’m incredibly grateful when I think about why it took me so long to get here: we’re best friends. We do almost everything together, We talk everyday, and not just about the daily grind (no matter how much I insist we do). And even get plenty of lunch dates in during the work week (we work at the same office).
Last week was our first run at it. One of our long time friends was playing with his bluegrass band at a local cafe: Plain Folk Cafe — if you’re ever in the area, it’s a must visit! We got dinner, caught up with some friends, thumped our feet a little, sang along to an unexpected “Fat Bottomed Girls” (my unofficial anthem) and generally had a relaxing baby free night. It was also my first chance to wear my favorite shift dress and one of the only non-nursing friendly ensembles I have in my closet ;)
Of course you never really come out of mom mode, so when I got a phone call from my mom because Thurser hadn’t stopped crying I was pretty distracted for awhile. I tell ya though, there is a lot of comfort knowing your baby is in your own mama’s arms. We’ll get there ;)
Tonight? Oh we’re thinking about going to this pizza place that Nick has been raving about and I’ve yet to try. Remember? Pizza is kind of our thing…
