What I [Really] Wore No. 4

So, uh… it’s been awhile since I’ve shared weekly outfits right?  I broke my five weeks of silence here with a pretty raw blog post last week that will likely give you some insight as to why I’ve been absent from this space.

Sometimes I find it so easy and fun to share about personal style and (dare I say) ‘fashion’ here, and sometimes it just feels vain and unnatural — I choose to refrain when it feels more like the latter.  Usually it’s because I’m dealing with some other life event that has left me otherwise consumed.

But just like anyone I suppose, I enjoy some intentional distraction from the vortex that deep thoughts can create and I feel like I’ve reached a place of peace at this point and time.

All things considered, I manged to get a handful of outfit photos over the last few weeks and I thought it would be a shame to not share them.  So instead of a day-by-day weekly snapshot of ‘what I really wore’ I thought, today, I would do a round up of outfits I really wore over the last few weeks — crazy fall weather and all.

Here’s that muscle tee again.  So glad I not only held on to this when it didn’t jive with my nursing bras but so glad I reached for it in the depths of a drawer one day when I was just over wearing anything with sleeves in the heat.  I’m enjoying finding new ways to wear it even now as the weather bounces back between hot and cool — typical Ohio fall.

Aren’t these photos so awkward? Haha, ahhhh…  (Yay for trying new things?)  My favorite thing about this look was fully tucking the shirt into the high-waisted jean shorts, but of course this pose doesn’t really show off why I love the silhouette it creates.  It feels so natural and flattering.

Still loving this Amour Vert top so much. Most of the time I wear it completely un-tucked — it has a slightly boxier, cropped fit — but in this outfit it decided to try and do a half tuck into my high-waisted shorts. I liked it at moments and not at others, so the jury’s still out on this one.

Totally tried something new with this outfit, so happy I did!  I was feeling wearing ankle boots, but it was still hot out.  I was feeling wearing a sweater, but alas, it was still hot out.  I was probably a *little* hotter than I would have been if I had just worn the dress with a pair of sandals, but the layers in this look make me one happy gal.

Cool then hot, cool then hot.  Some days it’s just too much to keep up with fickle early fall weather.  I love long a good long sleeve tee and shorts combo, but not when it leaves me sweating by lunch time. That was definitely me on this day. Overall, still digging the striped navy + faded black together though.

This is my: it’s 90 freaking degrees and I am going to be sitting on the sidelines cheering 4 year-olds on playing soccer all afternoon but I wanna feel cute outfit.  It worked! Also, gotta love that picture on the right. : )

Finally tried wearing a v-neck with my overalls, and it was a total win!  I honestly love a good v-neck, but a lot of the time I find that they aren’t so practical with my hauling toddler everywhere.  I’m just constantly checking to see if everything stayed covered up.  Ya’ know? Anybody else have this problem?

These last two outfits are nearly the exact same outfit, no?  But somehow they feel totally different, and I absolutely love that.  It’s nice to know that the magic of wardrobe planning never really fades or go away — I’m still just as amazed and even a little bit intoxicated by it as I was almost three years ago. :)  Here’s to more cool fall days in my future!

Over the next couple weeks I’ll be taking (another?) break from sharing weekly outfits — this time a planned one.  I’ll be back at sharing weekly outfits at the end of next month, but over the next few weeks I have a couple fun wardrobe posts to share with you, including: (1) a travel/packing post for a trip to Gatlinburg TN, (2) an Amour Vert t-shirt review, and  (3) an Everlane cashmere review! Pretty pumped about all three, I hope you are too. :)

    Laura,
I love your tops tucked into the shorts – it’s such a great styling trick to make shorts and a tee seem like so much more and you totally rock it! Also, you look so great in the overalls. I’m a little jealous, as I think they’re so cute on everyone, but just not sure they’re ‘me’.

    Have a great week, friend!

Thank you Paige for the awesome compliments! And I have similar overall sentiments regarding you (and others) in jumpsuits. Crazy really considering they (overalls and jumpsuits) are both one piece looks, right?! Hope you have a great rest of your week as well friend!

I sometimes have similar thoughts on being vain while faced with “more important” issues. Like “how can I be looking at coffee tables when people in PR have no electricity/food/water?!?” But whether you have larger concerns or not, it’s healthy to immerse yourself in life’s little things and find happiness and content in all that fun stuff.
