3 Thanksgiving Outfits to Recreate + Pushing the Reset Button

I know, I know. It’s the day before Thanksgiving and I’m sharing outfit ideas? But in case you too are feeling the urge to go out and get an entirely new outfit on a whim for tomorrow’s celebrations, here are three looks that I can almost guarantee you will be able to recreate with pieces you already have in your closet. :)

Also, be sure to scroll all the way down to read a few more details about my shopping break I’m coining as a #retailrecess.

2 | Lace tee by Madewell (old), similar (almost sold out!)

3 | Jeans by Madewell (secondhand), almost exact same (Fits notes: since I’d never bought Madewell jeans before, much less secondhand, so I was extremely worried about sizing! I took my measurements (and now keep them on hand) and called up my local Madewell to compare notes. The woman i spoke with was extremely helpful and spent a great deal of time answering all my questions to determine fit and sizing, so if you’re in the same boat I would highly recommend taking this route.)

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT MY RETAIL RECESS

Last week I shared with you some of my favorite looks for this fall as well as my plan to partake in a “retail recess” over the next six months.

I began this recess almost immediately after I made a few late fall additions (on October 28 to be exact) and l just knew the urge to acquire — no matter how many well thought out purchases I made — just wasn’t going to subside. Honestly? I don’t believe I will ever reach that point of “arrival”. You know the one where I won’t continuously feel the need of wanting more? I believe that I will always “battle” with that — that most of us will. But I definitely have felt an attitude shift in myself since I have started down this path of a “less is more” wardrobe. And I believe wholeheartedly that the habits we foster will ultimately shape the attitude of our day-to-day. I’m using my constant desire to acquire pieces for my wardrobe — whether backed with a valid need or not — as feedback from which I can gather that I’ve allowed some unhealthy habits to creep back into my life. So I’d like to think that simply taking a break from constantly perusing clothing sites and shopping for clothing all together for a significant period of time will allow me to press a figurative reset button — and will help me re-establish some of my day-to-day habits.

I’m very excited that several of you have voiced that you will be joining in on the #retailrecess: for 6 months, 1 month or even just a week! Woohoo! You guys rock! I plan to share in my experience here on the blog as well as on Instagram with the hashtag #retailrecess — I hope you’ll do the same because I think we’ll all need a little rooting for along the way. :)

Also, please know that I’m not foolish enough to believe that everyone who seeks out or happens upon my blog will be in this same place — so posts, links, etc. will continue as usual. My greater hope is to provide value to you or to someone who is looking to start down a similar path and I would be ecstatic if that means I could introduce brands and/or wardrobe pieces and outfit ideas that would help achieve those longer term goals. So please don’t feel guilty or like you need to avoid this space if you are currently in an acquiring phase simply because I’m talking about taking a break from it.  :)

So tell me, which look is your favorite? :) And … if I do more outfit posts in the future, what sort of things would you like to see featured?

P.S. In case you think I’m all business during a photoshoot, here’s a photo that proves otherwise… Haha!

I think the third look is my favorite, I’m all about the black and cognac mix for fall! And you rock those overalls, momma!! I can’t wait to follow your no shop journey. I, too, have noticed I’m craving adding new items more and more lately and spending too much time online shopping. I’m not sure if it’s the change in season or barrage of sale emails, but it’s hitting me hard. I am going to think about joining you and working on that contentment piece through the season of consumption☺.

Oh my gosh me too! Warm neutral combos all the way!!! And thanks. :) I seriously love them. They are one of the best mom pieces (that also reflect my style) that I’ve ever added to my closet — and I feel so good about having added them secondhand (as well as waiting over a year to actually pull the trigger!) I will most definitely be calling up on you for inspiration during this time, haha!

I like all 3 looks. The first look really caught my eye-the feminine lace w/the cable knit is dressy w/warmth & comfort. Boot w/heal height adds simple chic. I so want a pair of overalls. Do you own cowboy boots?? They’d look cool with your style.! You are very pretty & have great hair. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thank you so much Marti, you are too kind! And yes I do own cowboy boots, haha. I guess I’ll have to feature them some time on the ‘ol blog, huh? :) I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)

I bought a great pair in Vail, Colorado. I’d be curious how you’d style your boots with dresses & jeans. I’ll await your posting! Thanks!

I like the second, or dressy look… because you just inspired me to try combining lace and cable knit! I love layering different textures but I haven’t explored that combo yet. :)

Also, you have truly inspired the inner-thrifter in me and I just scored a pair of Madewell jeans for $23 (including shipping!). I’m super nervous about them fitting okay… even though I own 2 pairs of Madewell jeans already… there is just something about trying them on. But you are boosting my confidence in this area. So I’m crossing my fingers they will be perfect, and if not I guess there is always store credit ;)

Yay! Glad to hear it Christina!. :) And yes, layering textures is little bit of a love language for me. :)

And oh my gosh that’s so awesome! THRIFTING IS THE BEST! Right? Fingers crossed for you my dear. :)

You make such a great point – I don’t think I’ll ever hit that point of feeling like I’ve “arrived” at a complete closet. I really need to chill out from chasing that! After my fall additions I have switched back to only buying 3 items per season. And this has really forced me to wrestle, and pick and choose what will be the best addition.

Those boots are a super great score, they look really great with each outfit!! I like the way you styled them with my socks. I think #1 is my fav outfit!!

    Happy turkey day my friend!!

I know right?! It still continuously creeps back in… I love your 3-piece rule. :)

These boots were a long time coming for me, and I’m so happy I waited around for them to pop up secondhand. They are as great of an addition to my closet (if not better) than I thought they would be. Hooray for a little heel height variation, haha! Look #1 is my favorite too :) Good thing that look is for tomorrow — our third and final Thanksgiving… Amen for roomy waists!
