The Good Stuff

My Favorite | Baby Products, Round Two

I remember shortly after I had Wyatt I had this realization: no matter how many blog posts I read, how many lists I consulted, there was just no way I was ever going to know what baby products were going to work for us until we “tested the waters” a little bit.

I wished then and there that we’d bought it all used. The high chair, the stroller, the bouncy seat, the swing, the list goes on…  I never realized how sick you could get of looking at all the cutesy things around you. Stay away from woodland animal playards!  Never realized that lamby-lamb bouncy seats could trigger buyer’s remorse.  That the only Vitamin D drops that you can get in a grocery store suck. That high chairs take up so much room.

Anywho.  We’re two babies in now and I feel like I’ve learned a thing or two (haha, I so didn’t mean to do that).  I would still recommend starting out with hand me down items or things bought second hand, and then — once you’ve got a feel for it all — go and buy those bigger items.  The ones that will be apart of your everyday for quite awhile.  Things that should work extremely well and things you should like using.

But that’s just my two cents! Below are a list of things I love using everyday. Some are a case of hindsight and some, whadduya know, I got right the first time! ;)

1. Natural rubber pacifier

2. Wood comb + brush

3. Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap (waaay cheaper at the grocer)

4. Aden + Anais swaddle blankets

5. Ergobaby Carrier

6. Lifefactory glass bottles

7. Coconut oil

8. Baby Bjorn bouncer (Craigslist find)

9. Nursing pillow

10. Solly baby wrap

11. Carson’s Daily drops

And a few more bonus items that I didn’t think of when I made that killer graphic above…

12. Booster seat

13. 4moms playard (another Craigslist find)

14. Bottle drying rack

What are your favorite baby products?

I hear ya! I am due in five weeks with number 4, and even though we always wanted four children, I got rid of everything, including maternity clothes, a few years ago. There are five years between #3 and #4, so I’m sort of starting over. However, I’m doing it with everything being hand me downs, and since I have three older kids to entertain the baby, I “need” so much less. I’m a little different because I return to work 6 weeks postpartum, and I bring the baby with me to work for the first 6-9 months, so I need a double set of a few things to keep at my office and at home.

My requirements include a standing swing (one for office, one for home), a bouncy seat, a booster seat to strap to the dining room table chairs, a Boppy (for home), a My Breast Friend nursing pillow) for work because I can put baby on it to nurse and lock it into place behind my back, then continue to use the computer and work while nursing, a Medela dual breastpump + hands-free pumping bra (I did save those two items), a Graco infant car seat + two bases, a City Mini Stroller (still had this), the stroller/infant seat attachment, the Miracle Blanket Swaddle Blankets (still had these), a co-sleeper for my tiny bedroom to be used in the corner of the room since I do not co-sleep, an infant bath tub, and a Beco Butterfly infant/toddler carrier. It’s amazing how many things you can get for FREE just by asking mom’s groups if you have a lot of time in advance to plan! When I was only 12 weeks along, I started asking groups for the specific things I loved, and I started getting things practically thrown at me! The other things, i just waited for other moms to post that they were selling them, and I jumped on it. If only I had known this BEFORE I had baby number 1, I would have saved so much money!!

Ah! I can’t believe I forgot to add my breast pump and hands free pumping bra to this list! I guess I was thinking that they are more of mama products…? I also love my Bravado nursing bras (on Amazon). Not cheap but they have an amazing life span and I am able to use only two. All though I would love to have 3 or 4!

I’ve got everything secondhand except the car seat capsule. I am huge on secondhand anyway, but with baby stuff it just makes sense. I got so many gifts of clothing and soft toys. I’m pretty sure I have 10 rattles! I hate all the kid centric design, why does it all have to be pink or blue, woodland animals or worse still marketing products for Winnie the pooh or Frozen?
